«Sciences and Skateboarding»

The first edition of the international workshop «Sciences and Skateboarding»
Born in the 50s in the United States, skateboarding has evolved over time and now represents a link between sporting, social and cultural practices, while retaining a strong connection with urban space.
Despite a long history of stigmatization, skateboarding has become a creator of identity, influencing fashion and music, for example, and embodying values of diversity and inclusion.
As a result, all these emerging dynamics make skateboarding a rich subject of study for the Social Sciences and Humanities ( sociology, urbanism, history, public management, economics, etc.)
In collaboration with ESSCA School of Management, the 2025 edition of the Connect festival presents the first international workshop “Sciences and Skateboard” which invites researchers (PhD or Doctoral student) to meet, present their work if they wish, and collectively reflect on the prospects of research in the humanities and social sciences.

Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 9:30 to 16:00
Cour Mably (Bordeaux, France)
